Caption: Ships are received in the harbor of Portsmouth, New Hampshire after returning from the rescue of Lieutenant A.W. Greely, U.S. Army, and other survivors. Left to right USS TALLAPOOSA, USS ALLIANCE, USS THETIS, USS BEAR, and USS ALERT. The latter three ships participated in the expedition, 1 August 1884.
